Three Interactive activities for Senior High ESL Classes

In this activity, students work in pairs. The two students have a slightly different version of an interesting passage about 150-200 words in length. One or two words in each sentence are different. For example, the first sentence for student A is: “Halloween is a fun time for kids and adults alike.” For student B, the sentence is: “Halloween is a great time for kids and adults alike.” Student A reads while student B follows along. Student B should circle any different word(s) (“great”), and then student B must write down the word she heard (“fun”) below the circled word. The teacher should emphasize that the students need to actually write down the word they heard, because they often skip this part. Who would be the winner and turn into human being again? Their destiny were on their own hands!

At my first sight, I thought it was a science fiction. But as I read it through, I found it’s more than that. It’s a mix of sci-fi and mysterious novel. I like the descriptive suspense very much, especially Mr.Utterson’s exploration into Dr.Jekyll’s life.

Dr. Jekyll is well-respected by the public, but his nature hides evil. He invented some kind of magical liquid. As long as he drinks it, he will transform into Mr. Hyde automatically.

This book which was our class’s choice hit it big and famous around the world. There are not plenty of pictures, but there are a lot of new and long words that I have never learned and seen. So, I have a hard time reading it in the beginning. But, time after time, I have slowly understood what the story is talking about.

He not only found that he also had special power, but also fought the monsters with other peculiar kids. The story was kind of scary stories, especially when I saw the hollows.
