108課綱(或稱新課綱)草案在課程規劃中說明:「校訂科目宜酌予規劃各群科專業英語文之開設,供學生修習,以提升學生之專業英語文能力。」專業英語文(English for Specific Purposes, ESP)在技術型高中課程是全新的概念嗎?事實上,民國76年12月教育部公布的《職業學校英文課程標準》,在教學目標中即已有專業英文的概念,如工業類英文為:「加強實用英語及工業術語之學習」、「培養閱讀普通及工業英文之能力」。商業類英文則為:「加強商用英語及商業術語之學習」、「培養閱讀普通及商業英文之能力」。其他如農業類、海事水產類、家事類、藝術類均有近似的敘述,在此不一一列舉。本文擬先摘要性地描述專業英語文,再說明技術型高中校訂專業英文課程規劃的考慮因素,最後再談教學。 (...閱讀全文)
“Scene”matic Taiwan in Cinematic Worlds: Taiwan Images Through the Lens of Foreign Films (站在世界的「鏡」頭─外國電影取景下的台灣意象)

作品簡介:瀏覽作品說明書競賽日誌心得報告 From the earlier Life of Pi (少年 Pi 的奇幻漂流) to the latest Silence (沉默), we have observed a surge of foreign directors filming in Taiwan. For an in-depth understanding of this trend, we interviewed two domestic experts and reviewed literature to investigate its causes, analyzed the Taiwan scenes in five representative films to explore how Taiwan images are constructed, and distributed a questionnaire to 142 foreign viewers on their impressions of scenes featuring Taiwan in such films. We came to the following results. 1.Seven allures predisposed foreign directors to film in Taiwan, which include: natural beauty and humanities, typical Asian images, less restriction in censoring screenplays and themes, filmmaking professionals, economy of time and money, official subsidies, and relevance to the story itself. 2.In the five films, Taiwan scenes were greatly borrowed for exotic themes rather than “being themselves,” thus hardly evoking Taiwan for viewers. 3. Taiwan’s identity “flashed” through scenes of local landmarks, prosperous streets, local cuisines, and so on, yet these fleeting images failed to leave imprints on audience. 4.Taiwan images were badly shadowed by the presence of poor public order and messes while the foreign audience was competent to recognize these negative portrayals or stereotypes and remained immune from them. 5. The foreign audience who had watched such foreign films tended to be unaware that they were filmed in Taiwan despite being impressed by the natural beauty and landmarks/old ruins in the films. 6.In terms of promoting Taiwan worldwide, “including Taiwan scenes in foreign films” fell second to “integrating Taiwanese stories or events into foreign films” in the eye of the foreign audience possibly because the latter engages and impresses them deeper in a film than the glimpses of scenes. In a nutshell, we consider it fascinating to promote Taiwan to the world through foreign films. However, if Taiwan is merely peripheral, or say, only the “background” of a film, the effects may fall short given that foreigners are still ignorant or oblivious of the Taiwan images in the film they watch. Therefore, we propose that our government re-assess the policy of subsidizing foreign films “simply shot” in Taiwan and ask the depth of Taiwan be unveiled in them.
